“Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels.”
Today is a special little day for me, and not just because it's Easter, but also because I went vegan exactly one year ago today!
A lot happened in this past one year, I don’t even know where to start.

MY REASONS
When I went vegan one year ago, it was clearly a health choice. I don’t wanna write too much details about it, because you can read my story in the introduction. Long story short, I had a lot of digestive problems, and allergies, and I was desperately seeking for the solution, and that was the point, where being vegan came into my mind. I basically went vegan overnight, but I still had to learn about veganism a lot. For example I’ve never thought that honey is not vegan at all. Although I don’t like social media (I know, that’s a contradiction that I don’t like social media and I am writing a blog…), sometimes it can be really helpful, because you can watch documentaries, and there are some really good YouTube channels out there, with book recommendations, tips, and recipes, which makes so much easier to change your lifestyle. After I did my research, veganism also became an ethical choice for me. I couldn’t think of animals as food anymore, because I started to understand that they are not ours, they are living creatures as well, who deserve love. Or at least not to get killed. There is absolutely no point of animal testing or eating animals. For me it doesn’t make any sense that a living creature has to suffer for me.
So now I am vegan because of my health, for the animals and for the Earth.
WHAT CHANGED?
Actually, a lot! I’ve never thought my life can change so deeply. It feels like I suddenly started to see the truth what is happening around me, the animal slaughter, the cause of deforestation, the side effects of consuming animal products. I’m not saying I am perfect, I’m really not. I still have a lot to learn. But I am trying every day, to live a better life, to make choices without causing harm and live a compassionate life. For me veganism is about making an effort every single day, to live a better life.
My health definitely changed after going vegan. My digestion started to heal and I am feeling better and better every day!
My eating habbits also changed a lot. For example when I'm in a bad mood all I can think of is a big bowl of fruit, intead of chocolate, which always cheers me up. But the best thing about being vegan is that I'm much more conscious about my choices. Not just about what I eat, but about my consumption in general. Minimalism and the zero waste lifestyle definitely came into my life with veganism.

ABOUT MY DIET
This past year was about experimenting. Experimenting what to eat and how to eat. Experimenting what makes me feel great, and what’s not. If I have to categorize myself, I would say that I am high carb low fat most of the times, but, to be honest, I don’t like these boxes. If I don’t work early and I can have a lazy morning, I love eating fruits and making smoothies until lunch, it is really good and healing for my digestion. When I go to work I prefer eating oatmeal, because it is fulfilling and you can make it with fruits, granola, cocoa powder, etc. so it never gets boring. At the first few months I ate cooked food for lunch and for dinner too, and I found it a little too much for my digestion. After dinner I was often bloated. But sandwiches and huge salads work perfectly for me as a diner.
My diet changed in the last couple of months. The main reason is that we moved to England. Here in our tiny apartment I have a really small kitchen, small cupboards, etc. and I don’t have as much ingredients for cooking as I had in Hungary. I know, I could buy things, but you know what? That works perfectly for me! I cook simple dishes. Sometimes I just eat a huge bowl of rice with veggies. It is almost like a buddha bowl, but not that fancy. The best things in life are simple 😊
PLANS FOR THE FUTURE
I have a tone of plans for the future! One day I really want to work something which somehow includes veganism, because it became I great passion of mine! As I mentioned I don’t really like social media, but I want to use it to spread message, that I think is important, because I really do believe in that the future is vegan!
I can't even put into words how grateful I am that I've found this way of living, that I've realised that I don't have to live like I was thought, I don't have to eat animal products, if it doesn't feel right. I can change. I can be the change.
Peace,
Kincső
