10 self-care intentions for 2020 ~self-care, sustainability, books

Updated: Mar 30, 2020

In my previous post I wrote about that I’d like to focus on self care and building habits in 2020. So I thought I gather the the habits I’d like to adapt or do more of in 2020! These are super simple habits. When I say self-care I don't mean that you have to do crazy rituals every single day. But I believe that we need time for ourselves everyday, even if it's just a 10 minute meditation, a huge bath after work, or a great cuppa tea in solitude.

CHALLENGE MYSELF

Challenges are great to discover new habits and to step out of your comfort zone. I feel like I was in my comfort zone for too long so now I’d like to try new things. I’m definitely going to do a 30 days of yoga challenge which I do every year. I’d also like to adapt new habits in terms of self care.

DRINK MORE WATER

I read somewhere that often when you feel tired you are just dehydrated so drinking a cup of water instead of a coffee is a great idea. Drinking a good amount of water has other benefits too: it helps the digestive system, your skin is going to look better and it helps weight loss, if that's something you're aiming for. Sometimes I’m good at paying attention to how much I drink, but sometimes I loose track so this is something I need to work on.

JOURNALING

I started journaling a couple weeks ago because I felt overwhelmed and I needed something to clear my mind. It really helps when I feel that there are so many thoughts in my head that I can’t think straight. It also helps me to focus on my priorities and on what I'd like to achieve. Journaling has many forms, you can write about your day, you can create a gratitude list or you can write down each morning what you'd like to focus on.

PRIORITIZE SELF-CARE

Self care has a lot of forms. It can be reading a good book, going for a great walk or even exercise. I feel that we usually have so many things going on in our lives that sometimes we just need to focus on ourselves. I find it important to find what makes me feel good. It can be as simple as a 10 minute meditation every morning, or reading 30 minutes before bed. It can be anything which helps you relax.

I love reading but this is something I’ve been struggling with. I feel like I’m on my computer or on my phone a lot and when it comes to reading it’s hard for me to slow down and sit still. This is definitely the curse of the digital world. But there are so many great books out there, fiction or non-fiction, which are worth reading! Reading is also a relaxing activity. Once I get into the right mindset I can sit on my couch and read for hours!

BE MORE SUSTAINABLE

I’m really passionate about sustainability in general but I feel that I could pick up a couple habits to be more sustainable. One area I need to learn a lot is how to be more sustainable when it comes to home cleaning products, so that's my main focus in 2020. I've already made a DIY all purpose cleaner which is coming at you in the next post ;)

EXERCISE FREQUENTLY

I know this is a huge commonplace that we should exercise more but I really think that doing something every day, even if it’s just 10 minutes, helps with mental clarity and productivity and you are going to feel better in general. This is something that hasn’t been my priority in the past months so I’d like to be better at it.

EAT MORE WHOLE FOODS

I love eating and cooking a nice meal but I also love comfort foods which I had a little too much in the past year. I believe in a balanced diet instead of restricting certain foods but I also feel like I should pay attention to eat more whole foods because after all this is what makes me feel the best.

LESS COFFEE MORE TEA

I am such a huge coffee person! I could easily drink 4-5 coffees a day if I didn’t restrict myself. I’m trying to drink less coffee and more tea because drinking tea is a healthier habit (I think) and it also makes me feel better. I find this habit probably the hardest to change, because I just love coffee so much!

DIGITAL MINIMALISM

This is also something I’m struggling with. I often feel like my laptop is cluttered and I have piles of documents, photos and videos everywhere. I’d like to organize my files, keep order and delete everything I don’t need anymore. For a clear mind you definitely need a clear environment and this applies for your digital environment too.

I don't believe in crazy resolutions, just because it's a new year, but it's always an interesting experience to reflect on the past year and set goals to the new one. I hope this list gave you a little inspiration in terms of self-care and healthy habits. These are small things which are easy to incorporate into your day. You are going to feel amazing!

Cheers,

K
